White House press secretary Jay Carney said Monday that Republicans should not "play chicken with the economy" and should vote to raise the debt ceiling quickly.
Carney warned that "the consequences of not raising the debt ceiling would be Armageddon-like in terms of the economy."

Well it's good to see the White House Democrats aren't using the scare tactics the Republicans always use. Maybe they should have cut more than $38 Billion?
That's my take, not yours.

Can Carney or the President deliver 100% of the Democratic votes to raise the debt ceiling in the House and Senate?
If so, only a few Republican votes will be needed in each chamber and they will not be hard to get.
On the other hand if a few (or a lot) of the Democrats are going to vote No then this is a real fight we are about to get into.
It is going to take more than rhetoric in a speech for the bill to pass, specific spending cuts and policy changes on spending will need to be enacted to get the bill passed.
Thanks for the seed

so according to the president, unless we are allowed to go even deeper in debt, our economy will suffer?

California - Great State, love the mountains! I agree, if your digging a hole and need to get out, do you keep digging or start filling it in?
That's my take, yadda, yadda, yadda...

Obama can put his head where the sun don't shine, we do not need more debt. He just want more money to spend and for what I do not know. Obama needs to go period, we have has some bad president but this guy is even worst than Bush and I never through anyone would be worst than Bush.

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt limit.” -Senator Obama
Enough said.

We are at the exact same place as Obama describes and we should do the exact same thing.
No raising of the debt limit without severe spending cuts and legislative restraints to restrict future spending fiascoes.
